The Open University (OU) has been awarded five full-fee Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships for citizens of Eastern African countries.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn about the theory and practice of online and blended teaching through modules designed by experts from The Open University’s Institute of Educational Technology, who are leaders in the design and delivery of digital teaching, learning, and assessment. You’ll look at how new media, innovative pedagogies, and cutting-edge educational technologies can be used effectively and equitably across multiple sectors to engage and meet the needs of diverse learners.

Value of Award: The Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships will cover the full cost of tuition but no other expenses.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship to pursue a Master’s degree in Online and Distance Education, you must meet the following requirements:
Be a citizen of, or have been granted refugee status by, one of the eligible developing Commonwealth countries listed above, or be a British protected person; and Be permanently and continuously resident in one of the eligible developing Commonwealth countries listed above; and Hold a first degree of at least upper second class (2:1) standard. A lower qualification and sufficient relevant experience may be considered in some cases; and Be unable to afford to study your chosen course without this scholarship.
How to Apply for Commonwealth Distance Scholarships at Open University in the United Kingdom, 2023:
- In addition to applying for a Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship through the CSC’s online application system, candidates must apply for and be admitted to an approved Master’s course at a participating UK university.
- The CSC will not accept applications that are not submitted through the CSC’s online application system.
- Candidates are advised to complete and submit their Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarship application as early as possible as the CSC’s online application system will be very busy in the days leading up to the application deadline.
- To be considered, applications must include supporting documentation.
